Mr Nigel Mabvuure
Mr Mabvuure is a UK-trained Consultant Plastic Surgeon at the Christie Cancer Centre in Manchester, specialising in reconstructive surgery for patients with head and neck, breast, advanced skin cancer, and perineal defects following cancer resection. He is also thrilled to extend his expertise to provide gender-affirming care, helping individuals on their unique journeys.
He read medicine at Brighton and Sussex Medical School, graduating with Distinction, and was also awarded Honours for top performance in Surgery, Medicine and Therapeutics. Other awards for top academic performance included a Chancellor’s scholarships for top 3 performance as well as national awards from the Association of Physicians and also the Association of Physicians of GB and Ireland. He also took an extra BSc in Biomedical Science at this time, graduating 1st Class (Honours) and also an award for best research student.
Postgraduate training was in Glasgow, Newcastle, Nottingham and underwent rigorous higher plastic surgery training in Essex and Norfolk. This training included all forms of plastic surgery including breast, skin, hand and aesthetic surgery. He also spent over a year as an advanced Head and Neck and facial reconstructive and aesthetic surgery fellow in Chelmsford, Essex where he also gained expertise in managing facial paralysis. He passed FRCS (Plast) exams, was awarded a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) and was admitted onto the plastic surgery Specialist Register by the GMC. During this time, he won awards from the MY Plastic Surgery course for course performance as well as publishing over 60 scientific articles, including several textbook chapters.
